Flipping the Switch at Schweitzer Mountain Resort
- In 1963, workers rushed to finish chairlift towers up the slope in time for the opening of Schweitzer Mountain Resort.
- Schweitzer Mountain Resort’s parking area was turned into an assembly yard during fall construction.
- The main chairlift, called “Momma Bear,” required 20 towers leading up the slope.
- Former Northern Lights General Manager William T. Nordeen participated in the official switch pulling that energized the chairlift at Schweitzer in December 1963. Other members of the crew were, from left, Miss Idaho Linda Moulton of Boise, Miss Spokane Rosemary Harness and Miss Sandpoint Marcia McComas.
