Operation Round Up® began at NLI in November 2005. Since then, it has generated over $120,000 from Operation Round-up and over $138,000 in additional contributions from CoBank & NLI for a total of more than $250,000. There are approximately 200 electric cooperatives across the nation operating this program showing their commitment to their communities.
Each month, NLI “rounds up” the electric bills of participating members to the next highest dollar. Right now, NLI has approximately 1,400 members in the Operation Roundup program. For example, a member’s monthly bill of $88.73 would be automatically rounded up to $89.00, with the additional 27 cents going to the Operation Round Up fund. Donations are tax deductible, and you will be sent a summary of your yearly contributions in the January statement. The average amount any given member donates is just $.50 per month, with the maximum being $12 per year.
Typically, the majority of funding is used for our local food banks. All Operation Round Up donations are placed in trust and administered by an independent Board of Directors called the Northern Lights Community Trust. The Trust is made up of 7 members who are community leaders and serve on the Board on a voluntary basis. It is they who receive and evaluate all requests for funds and determine how they will be distributed.
Please consider signing up for Operation Roundup and encouraging your friends and neighbors to do the same. When you enroll in the program your bill will be rounded up to the next dollar and the difference used to help our neighbors and fellow members.
