NLI Board Elections

NLI holds elections every year, rotating the terms for its seven districts. This year, directors will be elected for Districts 3 and 6. Members residing in these districts will vote either by mail-in ballots or at the annual meeting Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Panida Theatre, 300 N. First Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho.

If you reside in Districts 3 or 6 and wish to be nominated for the NLI board, you must submit the Declaration of Director Candidacy and Member Petition Nomination forms. These forms are available by stopping by NLI’s Sagle headquarters, or here on our website.

A Board Candidate Orientation is offered at the board meeting Monday, February 24, at 11:30 a.m. PST in the board room at NLI headquarters, 421 Chevy St., Sagle, Idaho. If you plan to attend the Board Candidate Orientation, please email claire.zaugra@nli.coop to confirm your attendance.

To help you understand qualifications of an NLI Director, here is a summary of pertinent information:

ELIGIBILITY: To become a director, you must be an NLI member residing in the district in which you wish to serve. NLI directors must meet the qualifications outlined in NLI’s bylaws, be able to invest a minimum of 60 days per year on board-related activities and be able to periodically attend conferences and director training.

DIRECTORS’ JOB: Directors establish the policies, rates and direction of the cooperative. Directors should have strong business acumen and a broad understanding of regional and national energy issues. The board meets monthly to set policy and develop long-range goals, always safeguarding the interests of cooperative members. Directors are also responsible for overseeing cooperative finances, including budget approval and retirement of patronage capital, as well as setting rates. Board members are expected to be knowledgeable about the electric cooperative industry. Attendance at committee meetings or other events to benefit the cooperative is required.
