By Elissa Glassman

NLI Apprentice Linemen Dusten Hongslo and Nate Kane placed second and third in the cooperative division at this year’s Lineman’s Rodeo at the Vigilante Rodeo Grounds in Butte, Montana, in July.

The purpose of the lineman’s rodeo is to demonstrate the skills lineworkers use every day to ensure a safe, reliable electrical supply to consumers.

Contestants and visitors from throughout the United States attend this regional event. Competitive events include speed climb, hurt man rescue and untie/tie in glass insulators.

The Montana Linemans’ Rodeo Association is a volunteer organization that promotes, organizes and administers the annual rodeo. The association’s mission is public safety and public education.
