PrintDecember Delivery: Capital Credit Checks Are on the Way!
Happy holidays from all of us at Northern Lights, Inc.!
I am happy to announce that the NLI Board of Directors has authorized a total of $1,730,000 of capital credits from 2002 and 2003 to be returned to our members this year. This means if you were a member of Northern Lights in those years, you will receive a check in the mail this month. Your check amount is determined by your energy use during those years.
We work hard to serve our members by providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity. As a not-for-profit cooperative, NLI is owned by its members. One benefit of being a member-owned cooperative is that money left over at the end of the year is returned to the members in the form of dividend checks in the future. Meanwhile, the funds are used to improve and maintain our infrastructure, ensure reliable service, and offset the need to borrow money, which helps us keep rates low.
Capital credit retirements from years past that go unclaimed are held by the cooperative. A list of all members with unclaimed capital credit distributions is available on our website. If you find your name on the list, call us at (208) 263-5141.
As another option, you can donate your capital credit checks to the Northern Lights Community Trust, which distributes funds to local charities in our service area. Please see the insert enclosed with your check for instructions on how to do this.
