Northern Lights is alerting all members to a scam involving phone calls that falsely claim your electric bill is delinquent and that your power will be shut off immediately.
What’s Happening?
Scammers are targeting Northern Lights members in our area, pretending to represent the cooperative. These fraudulent callers may:

Claim your electric bill is overdue.

Threaten to disconnect your power immediately unless payment is made.

Demand payment via prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, or other untraceable methods.

Use caller ID spoofing to make it appear as if the call is coming from Northern Lights or a local number.
What You Need to Know

Northern Lights will never threaten or demand immediate payment using a prepaid debit card or wire transfer.

We do not disconnect service without prior notification—this may come through your monthly statement, a phone call, text message, or email.

We never request or accept payment via prepaid debit cards, wire transfers, or gift cards.

Our employees always identify themselves and can be verified by calling our official number.
What to Do If You Receive a Suspicious Call

Hang up immediately—do not engage with the caller.

Do not provide any personal or financial information.

Report the scam to local law enforcement or the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at https://reportfraud.ftc.gov.
