Air-Source Heat Pumps
PrintAir-source heat pumps are an efficient and economical way to heat and cool your home. Since heat pumps run on electricity, they are an ideal upgrade for ducted electric heating and cooling systems, providing comfort at a lower cost.
Air-source heat pumps can deliver up to two to four times more heat energy to a home than the electrical energy it consumes. They also provide cooling, so a single system can deliver year-round comfort for your home. Cold climate heat pumps work well in lower temperatures making them a good choice in all climates.
Heat pumps use electricity and refrigerant lines to move heat from one location to another, which is more energy efficient than creating heat. They transfer the heat out of the home in the summer and into the home during the winter.
Variable speed heat pumps receive the largest rebates and get the most savings.
Air-source heat pumps are recommended for:
- Homes with ductwork
- Homes with aging heating systems
- Homeowners looking to add air conditioning
- Whole home heating and cooling
- Homes with consistently high heating bills
Qualifications
You can potentially qualify for rebates if you are a current Northern Lights member in a single-family home or existing manufactured home.
Heat pump must be AHRI rated, and have a minimum of 7.5 HSPFs and 13.14 SEERS rating.
Work must be completed by a licensed and bonded contractor.

Rebate is not to exceed the cost of invoice. Limited to one* rebate per dwelling unit.
*Homes with heated floor area greater than 4,500 square feet or with two separate duct systems may claim up to 2 heat pump rebates when 2 qualifying systems are installed.
